- Store Information
A Vida Portuguesa was born from an investigation of a journalist named Catarina Portas.
The investigation resulted old Portuguese products, which had been around for decades with their original packaging and that are still made involving an important dose of manufacture.
In November 2004, these products were gathered in boxes according to different themes and in May 2007 the shop A Vida Portuguesa was established in the Chiado, Lisbon.
Considered by the local Time Out magazine one of the 10 most original shops of the Portuguese capital, it goes on surprising and enchanting its visitors. In November 2009 we opened a second shop in the Clérigos, Porto, that was featured in the 2010 Retail Directory of Wallpaper magazine. In 2009 we also launched the online shop, making our products available to the world, in partnership with Feitoria.
From the beginning, we have established partnerships with several old Portuguese brands, in order to develop exclusive AVP products: soaps with Ach. Brito and Confiança, swallows with Bordalo Pinheiro, pencils with Viarco, ceramics with Secla, notepads with Serrote, notebooks with Emílio Braga.
This is our most interesting and ambitious initiative: it involves research, creation, development and promotion of good quality brands and touching products; the praise of Portuguese production.
A Vida Portuguesa is a project consisting of three "material" shops (two in Lisbon and one in Porto). We pick buildings that fit with the character and charm of our products, we shy away from shopping centers and find our true nature in the historical centers, with the heritage and culture that show our products to their best possible light.
The shop in Chiado is located in one of the oldest trading neighborhoods of town, next to coffee shops where the poets, writers and philosophers would meet to exchange ideas and sip the local drinks. It used to be a lab and warehouse for a make-up producer and fabric seller.
The shop in Intendente is located in an old tile producer, as the walls can prove, bringing back the magic to a really special space and an area that had been abandoned in recent years and that is going through a major revamp.
The shop in Porto is located right opposite the Clérigos tower, a landmark of the town in the old town center, near many trendy bars and one of the most beautiful bookshops in the world.
