Jørgen Bækmark's J104 chair was designed as a cross between a dining chair and an armchair. The reproduction of this classic by HAY is made of solid beech with a variety of shelves or painted surfaces.
Joergen Baekmark is a Danish designer who worked in the furniture design studio FDB from 1958 to 1967. He studied carpentry and took courses in applied arts, he is known for a particular lightness and pioneering flat-pack furniture for export. FDB is the Danish Consumers Cooperative Society, better known as Coop. The FDB furniture division played a crucial role in the industrial revolution in Denmark, it was founded in 1933 and in 1942 Børge Mogensen was appointed design director. His groundbreaking approach was driven by the desire to create a simple, elegant and practical design for mass consumption. At FDB, Baekmark was initially commissioned to design lightweight pieces for export, such as the JW08 chair, which later became FDB's furniture department director. His designs, now produced by HAY, are the J104 chair and the C44 desk.
