Adam, the original
Adam Maldaner opened the coffee house over 160 years ago. Our story begins with him. In Ethiopia a completely different one: that of coffee. This one comes from the Guji region. The beans are fermented and washed in Faysel Abdosh's Washing Station. The green coffee comes to us through our partner PLOT Coffee, who has been working closely with 850 small farmers for several years. In this way we can guarantee the farmers a price that is well above the world market level and at the same time ensure a particularly high quality.
The coffee: 100% Arabica, fermented and washed
Do you love soft, floral filter coffees? Then you will love Adam! Adam is one of our first coffees from Ethiopia, the homeland of arabica. More precisely, from Guji, where the most original Arabica varieties, known as heirloom, grow. With his fermented and washed coffee beans, Adam convinces with a light body and high complexity. Its gentle nuances of hibiscus, white tea and honeybush are complemented by a fresh citrus note.
The preparation: floral filter coffee
Brew Adam with the hand filter, coffee machine, Aeropress or Frenchpress. Our expert tip: Try it as a cold brew!
The origin: direct trade from southern Ethiopia
The coffee comes from the Guji region, where it grows in fertile soils and an optimal microclimate in the high mountains at an altitude of 1850 - 2000 m. Particularly old types of coffee can be found in Ethiopia, including this coffee: a 100% Arabica of the heirloom variety. The Washing Station, which comprises a network of 850 smallholders, was founded in 2014 by Faysel Abdosh. Here the red cherries are delivered by the farmers inside and the cherry skin is removed during a 24 to 48-hour fermentation (depending on weather conditions). After fermentation is complete, the beans are washed and then placed on African bean sticks for about 12-15 days.
We trade the beans through our direct importer Plot Coffee, who has been working with local coffee farmers for several years. Thanks to the close contact and the shortened supply chain, the smallholders receive a reasonable price that is well above the world market level. In addition, the quality of the coffee is very high, which is also due to the close cooperation.
