According to English reports, the Goldrenette apple variety was found by Blenheim around 1740 as a random seedling in Woodstock (Oxfordshire, England) near Blenheim Palace, the estate of the Duke of Marlborough and finally named after this. The name of the estate goes back in history to an important battle for England in the context of the wars over the Spanish succession, which took place in 1704 at Blindheim (Dillingen, Bavaria), which became the Anglo-Saxon Blenheim. Renettes, after all, are called a group of apples with dense, later pulpy flesh and characteristic taste, and the "gold" in the name contributes to the color of the fruit. The Blenheim was once a valued and widespread variety, it is today only occasionally available. It was grown mainly for its taste. We have our Goldrenette from the edge of the Spreewald - so to speak from the immediate neighborhood - from a family owned farm for more than 120 years. There they grow on orchards of old high-stem apple trees with only two trees of each variety. The owner personally delivered the extremely aromatic apples directly after the harvest. We mashed it immediately and burned it after the fermentation has subsided. The result, after months of storage, is a wonderfully characteristic apple brandy with a hint of green, fruity notes, almost like breathing the air under a tree of ripe apples with light hints of pear notes.
