{ Pogostemon cablin }

Indian patchouli is a plant of the genus mint family and therefore related to the mint. Its stinging but not burning leaves are hairy and responsible for naming the genus from the Greek: pogo for beard and stemon for thread / stamen, as these are also slightly hairy. From the dried and fermented leaves, the patchouli oil is obtained, which finds wide use in perfumes. The heavy - for some barely tolerable - and long-lasting scent of patchouli is earthy, woody-tart and balsamic-sweet at the same time. He is also credited with an aphrodisiac effect, which made him just as popular in the hippie era of the 1968s as his use as a smelly protest against the establishment and philistinism. This species is native to, among others, India, Taiwan and Indonesia, where our leaves originate from controlled cultivation. From a bartender who likes to use the flavors of the patchouli in his cocktails, we were inspired to this spirit. A not easy task, which was crowned with success after numerous attempts. The main component of the essential oil, the sesquiterpene alcohol patchoulol, is just as clearly elaborated with its powdery, woody earthy and camphor notes, as the a-guaien with balsamic-sweetish and slightly peppery nuances as well as all the others, sometimes in very small amounts flavors contributing to this unique olfactory and gustatory experience. The secret is certainly in the right dose, because in this spirit shows his true ability.
