Oskar Schlemmer "Relief H", marble replica

Oskar Schlemmer (1888-1943) created the relief "H" in 1919, the year the Bauhaus Weimar was founded.
It can be understood as the ideal of an artificial figure developed by him. Man is the perfect expression of nature, spirit and soul - Schlemmer's entire theory of proportions and aesthetics is based on this ideological framework. which consists of various interlinked systems.

His reliefs express this thinking particularly well: Schlemmer did not see them as pictures but »rather (as) panels (...) that go beyond the frame to connect to the wall and part of the larger surface, the larger room than them to become (...) what would be the form and law of their larger surroundings. In this sense: tables of the law. The human form will always form the artist's great allegory «(quotation from Oskar Schlemmer).
This form of the artificial figure man becomes the prototype of all figurines that appear as artificial figures in his main work, the triadic ballet, and other stage pieces.
