The Farbglashütte Lauscha in Thuringia produces this bowl from Thuringian forest glass in the traditional way. "Umschwung" is a design by creative students at the Bauhaus University Weimar and the bowl itself invites creativity: a little nudge is enough and the bowl swings back and forth for a long time, as it has no fixed base.

The bowl is ideal for storing snacks, desserts, salads or simply as a decorative, interactive eye-catcher on the dining table. The bowl offered here is the larger of the two in the photos. The smaller version with 500 ml is only available in our Bauhaus store in Weimar.

Please note: each bowl is unique. The greenish color typical of forest glass results from the iron content of the sand, and the small bubbles, called gispen, are a characteristic of traditional forest glass. There are deviations due to the manual work that are deliberate and signs of traditional manufacturing work.

Forest glass is not dishwasher safe - but it is dishwasher safe. It feels most comfortable when it is cleaned by hand in warm water with a little washing-up liquid. Limescale residues are best removed with warm vinegar water mixed with salt.

Bauhaus Store Weimar
The legendary design school, the Bauhaus, was founded in 1919 in Weimar. Architects and artists such as Gropius, Feininger, Klee, Itten and many more were there from the beginning and shaped a then revolutionary understanding of new architecture, design and art in all fields.

Today, the Bauhaus is part of 11 UNESCO World Heritage sites in Weimar. The Klassik Stiftung Weimar owns the oldest collection of Bauhaus exhibits worldwide - and a new Bauhaus Museum is currently being built in Weimar, which will open its doors in spring 2019 for its 100th anniversary.

As a subsidiary company of Klassik Stiftung Weimar, we operate our own Bauhaus Store in a central location at the Weimar market place. An we look forward to the opening of the new museum, which of course will also receive an inspiring Museumshop.
