Restore after the fire
The salvation of the books of the Duchess Anna Amalia Library

Ten years after the devastating fire on 2 September 2004, the Duchess Anna Amalia Library draws a comprehensive record of the nature and extent of the damage and the preservation of the 118,000 books and music manuscripts damaged by fire and extinguishing water.
The book shows the progress and progress of the restoration work. It explains relationships between restoration
decisions and the project organization of the research library, the restoration-scientific environment and the market-economic conditions. In terms of restoration, the focus is on the concept of quantity handling in bookbinding and paper restoration practiced in Weimar. The different damage patterns are described, selected restoration procedures are presented and illustrated with numerous photographs and diagrams. The book also documents the loss of the books, which were irretrievably destroyed in 2004.
