Schiller's house in Weimar, open to the public since 1847 as a memorial, may be considered the oldest literary museum in German-speaking countries. Located between the theater and the residential building of Goethe, the house on the Esplanade Schiller and his family offered an appropriate domicile in the middle of the small residential town. Here he found peace and concentration for his work, here was his "William Tell" his last great drama and here Friedrich von Schiller died on 9 May 1805 at the age of 46 years.
For today's visitors, the atmosphere of the living spaces conveys a vivid picture of the everyday life of the poet and his family. An exhibition at the beginning of the tour provides information on Schiller's life and work in Thuringia. For children, the "Studiolo" is ready with its museum education offer.
